Welcome!

Thank you for coming to my website! I am a music scholar specializing in contemporary Taiwanese media. I currently have two primary research focuses: public spectacles like Taiwan’s national day celebrations, and documentary film. In all my work, I aim to understand how music helps individuals and collectives to constitute the nation-state.

On this page, you’ll find information about my activities as a researcher and performer, as well as some of my current projects, teaching, and course offerings. (You can also download my CV here.)

I am also the author of the Substack newsletter Unmusable, where you can read about many of my experiences as a field researcher working in Taiwan, my thoughts on contemporary film and media, and my reflections on teaching.

I’m always interested in opportunities for collaborations, talks, guest lectures, or clinics. To be in touch, or to just learn more about contemporary musical culture in Taiwan, find my contact info on my faculty page!
